I want to be a mentor
No one can understand what an athlete with a traumatic brain injury is going through better than someone who has been there themself. And no one understands the mindset of an athlete better than another athlete.
While there’s often no such thing as a full recovery, we ask that our mentors have been “cleared” or returned to their pre-injury capabilities, found their “new normal” or have returned to a functional way of life so as to best provide counsel to athletes still in the midst of their fight. All mentors must be an athlete or former athlete, but we encourage athletes from all sports, all competition levels and of all ages to join.
We will review and conduct a brief interview of each candidate before pairing them up with their teammate: someone in the midst of the recovery process.
The commitment is simple: we ask that each mentor reach out to their teammate on a minimum weekly basis, and that you are available to them in an on-going capacity. They understand that you are not a trained professional, but rather a peer who can share in their experiences.
